Nicaraguan Accent Vase

The perfect accent to any home - this contemporary vase was handmade using traditional methods ? first it was crafted from ceramic - painted its rich green hue - and etched to create the unique designs. This technique of scratching by hand a design into the glazed surface of the pot after it has been fired is called scraffito. The vase is waterproof and was made and signed by Silvio Potosme Gallegos - an artist from San Juan del Oriente - Masaya - Nicaragua. Silvio is the son of Digna Gallegos Martinez - who was a potter and molded her ceramics by hand. Silvio started out as a shoemaker - but returned to his mother?s trade of ceramic-making and has since won several awards for his work. The vase stands 6.5? tall.
